[Triumphs] Carb problem solved!

Creig, I put new diaphragms in when I rebuilt the valves but there is no
adjustment on them. They are sealed. Can the seals be removed? I had the car
running yesterday at a lower rpm and should have left well enough alone. It
seemed to me that it was running a little ruff and misfiring a little. I
read through the manual about a test. Raising the piston a ¼ inch and the
engine is supposed to speed up slightly and then settle back if the mixture
is correct. Well when I did that to both carbs the engine died. The book
says that means the mixture is to lean. My carbs are none adjustable. There
is no screw above the needle to adjust. I bought the tool and tried! I
thought about it for awhile. The needle is tapered and it lets in more or
less fuel as it rises and falls so if it is to lean if I recess the needle
deeper into the piston it should richen the mixture right? Well I did that
today and the engine seemed to be running smoother. Until it got up to
operating temp. Then it sped up to a little over 2000 rpm. I’m not sure what
to do! I either get low speed and rough idle or poor idle and smooth
running. I don’t know how to fix this. Does any one with the club have a lot
of experience with these carbs that could help? Does anyone around here work
on them professionally? I would appreciate any help that I can get.

John
