Subject: Looking for help for the 100 Acre Wood Performance Rally February
23 - 24
To: The St. Louis Triumph Owners Association
Hello:
Please share the following with your members. We would love their help with
this big event.
Thank you very much!
Tom vonHatten
Chairman
We'd love your help with Rally America's 100 Acre Wood February 23 and 24,
2007!
Rally America's second stop on the 2007 calendar is the Rally in the 100
Acre Wood headquartered in Salem, MO and will be held February 23 and 24.
The superstar of the X-Games and 2006 Rally America National Champion Travis
Pastrana will be on hand to defend his title in his Vermont Sports Car
prepped Subaru for Team Subaru.
If you have never experienced the thrills of a performance rally (think the
World Rally Championship or WRC on Speed) before here's a great opportunity
to watch America's best for FREE. Spectator locations with complete maps,
first car arrival time, concession availability, service breaks, plus
locations for the Parc Expose/starts and the finish ceremonies can be found
at www.100aw.org. All of these events are open to the public and everyone
is encouraged to view the cars up close and meet the teams and crews. Teams
will pose for photos and sign autographs.
The serious thrill seekers and motorsports fans will want the ultimate
experience manning a "Special Stage". These are the temporarily closed to
the public roads that become the competition portion of the event. Road
marshals are always needed and there is no experience required. A marshal
sits at intersecting roads to the rally route on the "special stages" and
keeps non-competitors off the course ensuring the safety of the event.
Control workers help time the cars in and out of the "special stage" and
offers another great opportunity to see the cars and meet the teams up
close. Working a start control is a really fun experience. If you've never
seen a 400 hp AWD car launch at 7000 rpm with anti-lag it's a sight to see.
The less serious will simply wait until May 11 and watch the condensed
coverage on ESPN2.
St. Louis area teams in the event include the 2006 Rally America Production
GT National Co-Driver Champion Kim DeMotte with a new team and driver,
4-time SCCA National Champion Justin Pritchard; Jeff Templeton behind the
wheel of his "daily driver"/fully prepped performance rally Subaru; and Jim
Stevens who's raced everything from an Allied Auto Racing Association stock
car to all six forms of SCCA competition.
The 100 Acre Wood weekend is one of five qualifiers for this years X-Games.
If DeMotte and Pritchard make the X-Games field DeMotte will be the oldest
competitor at the "Olympics" of X-treme sports at nearly 61 years of age.
You can stop by the Webster Groves Subaru on Wednesday, February 21 and meet
DeMotte between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
If you seriously want to be close to the action contact the Volunteer
Coordinator Curt Faigle. His email address is curt at 100aw.org or call
314-839-2701. Volunteers are needed both Friday for the Trespassers Wil
portion of the weekend and on Saturday for the 100 Acre Wood. Over 200
volunteers are needed to properly staff the event and ensure everyone's
safety. You'll need to contact Curt Faigle as soon as possible to
coordinate details. Actual assignments and registration will be handled in
Salem on Thursday, February 22 from Noon to 8:45 p.m. at the Salem Fire
House; on Friday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to Noon and on Saturday, February
24 from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. both at the Holiday Inn Express. As a volunteer
you'll receive an event t-shirt, beanie/ski cap, lunch on Saturday and an
invite to attend the awards ceremonies/banquet where you can hang out with
the stars of Rally America after the rally Saturday evening.
